Research Projects

The main projects of the GOC are supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China, 863 programs of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Chinese Academy Sciences, EU and so on.

  1. BESIII Grid Research on CNGrid
The projectis a key project funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China. It started in June 2009. The project will research the key technology on large-scale job submission, the management and transfer of huge volume of data across wide area network, and how to deploy BESIII software on CNGrid GOS platfrom.
  2. Data-intensive grid platform
The project is supported by Chinese Academy Sciences, which cates for the needs of CAS's and the national scientific and technological innovation. It is based on internal resources and extensively absorbs external resources to form a unique, open, and constantly data-intensive grid platform. It will also become one important infrastructure of e-Science, providing services and supports to Scientific and technological innovation.  Furthermore, it helps in promoting grid technology research and development.
The objective of the project is to research and establish one general-purpose data-intensive grid platform based on advanced grid technology. The Tasks include research and development of new application system on multiple grid middlewares; research and development of high-performance computing systems, mass storage systems, building high-performance data-intensive grid platform to support a number of demonstrative applications, forminf E-Science demonstration platform. The project formally initiated since August 2008.
  3. Scientific data grid and research applications
The project belongs to national 863 "high-performance computer and grid service environment" key project. The main objective of "scientific data grid and research applications " is to build a scientific data grid service environment that can support large-scale data-intensive applications, developing geoscience, high-energy physics and astronomy research applications, and to provide productive service on China National Grid (CNGrid), to provide critical support for major scientific research projects. The project officially started since January 2008.
  4.  Building high-energy physics Grid test-bed system on the platform of Comprehensive national research network
The projectis a key project funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China. It started in the June 2004. We employ grid technology to integrate the computing and storage resouces of several institutes and universities of China in a wide range, then form a national high-energy grid test bed environment to run high-energy physics applications and participate in the WLCG international collaberation as well.
  5. EUChinaGrid
Co-Funded by the European Commission in the framework of FP6, the EUChinaGRID project ran from 1st January 2006 to 31 March 2008, with the aim of supporting the interconnection of the existing European and Chinese Grid Infrastructures and enable their interoperability.
The first aim of the project was to facilitate scientific data transfer and processing in a first sample of pilot applications where a strong collaborations between Europe and China already exhisted. These applications immediately benefited of the new infrastructure, and acted in tur as the driving force to test and deploy an effective grid infrastructure between Europe and China.
Currently, organizations involved in EUChinaGRID from are IHEP, Beihang University, CNIC, Peking University from China, Consortium GARR, Department of Biology, Università di Roma3, INFN from Italy, GRnet from Greece, Jagiellonian University from Ploand and CERN from Switzerland.
The task of IHEP in such projects is to carry out the research of grid system and the deployment of grid platform, particularly in the application of LHC experiments and EGEE Yangbajing - ARGO.
